Our mission is to provide recreational programs that will enhance the social, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, physical and vocational needs of students, faculty, staff and their spouses in an environment of Christian values.

Campus Recreation strives to promote learning, fun, friendship, leadership development and sportsmanship in a Christian environment by offering quality competitive and non-competitive programs and activities.

  • We have spray bottles and towels in all areas for you to help us clean the machines and equipment when you are done with it.
  • In all areas, you will need your Samford ID card to swipe in and out. All users must provide a current valid Samford University ID.
  • Some facilities will be closed during academic classes, athletic department events, campus recreation events and community events.

In January 2006, he was named the Director of Campus Recreation.

Originally from Algona, Iowa, he graduated from North Iowa Area Community College with his Associates degree and finished his Bachelor's degree in Recreational Management at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. He went on to complete his masters work in Sports Administration at University of Wisconsin La Crosse.

Nick's responsibilities over Campus Recreation include managing indoor and outdoor athletic and recreational facilities, overseeing intramurals, facilitating outdoor activities, managing the fitness programs, advising the sport clubs, hiring, training, and evaluating around 100 student employees, marketing all programs/activities, developing hours of operations for facilities and working with Exercise Science & Sports Management, Athletics and Student Government Association for facility needs.

Carla Novaes-Reddick joined our team in July of 2022 and is so excited to be in this position where she can contribute to our student lives on Samford Campus!

Carla is a native from Sao Paulo, Brazil and has been living in the US since 2013. Currently, she holds three degrees – a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from the Faculdade de Educacao Fisica de Santos, a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, and an MBA in Marketing from Talladega College. She comes to Samford with six years of experience in Higher Education/Student Affairs. 

Carla is primarily responsible for advising and managing over 140 student organizations; overseeing technology decisions and maintenance related to the student organization software (Bulldog Central); develop strategies to utilize Bulldog Central to increase student engagement and promote leadership development; recognition process of new student organizations from initial interest to final approval; advise student organization leaders; train, equip and support student organization officers & faculty/staff advisors; and hire and supervise student assistants.

Carla expresses that it is her vocation to serve students and she wants to help organizations to create meaningful and purposeful involvement for students attending Samford University.

Brooke Stewart serves as the Director of Student Leadership. As a Samford graduate and former student leader, Brooke is responsible for developing and overseeing Samford’s faith-based student leadership programming and initiatives. Brooke focuses on student development through theory-based advising, education, and experiential learning at Samford. In her role as Director of Student Leadership, Brooke advises all branches of the Student Government Association, class officers, and other student leaders. Brooke oversees university-wide student leadership initiatives that equip students in developing essential leadership skills for their current experiences and in the future. She works to provide meaningful opportunities for student engagement and building leadership capacity among students. Brooke manages the monthly Leadership Luncheon Series as well as the Student Leader Spotlight that highlights outstanding student leaders on campus.

Brooke graduated from Samford University with a B.S. in Public Administration and from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Master of Science degree in Higher Education Administration. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Education with a concentration in Higher Education Leadership and Management.

Brooke understands that leadership is not just a position but a deeper calling to inspire and motivate others in service. Brooke believes all students can be leaders and loves working individually and collectively with students to reach their fullest leadership potential.

Gabe Williams joined the Samford University community in June of 2021 as the Intern of Campus Recreation.  In August of 2021 he was named the Coordinator of Campus Recreation. 

Gabe is originally from Killeen, Texas. After high school he received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and a double minor in Sports Management and Leadership from Troy University.  He was heavily involved with their campus recreation all four years and wanted to pursue this as his career.  As the Coordinator of Campus Recreation, Gabe will oversee the intramural sports program.  He will be creating sports for students and training students to officiate certain sports.  He will also assist with the Campus Recreations student facilities, fitness programs and club sports.
